Los Angeles Kimono Photoshoot

Kimonos are a running theme from the very beginnings of my photography, showing up in my street work, event coverage and projects I’ve worked on for others. The last kimono shoot with which I was involved showcased them on the streets of Los Angeles. This time, I wanted to show them in a more tranquil setting. Adding to this sense of tranquility, was a thick fog that was present the morning we shot these. For the location, I chose the Korean Friendship Bell whose architecture from several angles reminds me of Buddhist temples overseas.

The model, Yuki, is a talented dancer and model, who wore her own kimono and did her own dressing for this shoot.

Yukata at the Beach

For this Kimono shoot in 2024, I sourced this pastel blue Yukata and worked with Chiaki Ma on a lighthearted beach set. A yukata is a more casual summer kimono that’s made of lighter fabrics and more simple designs.

The visual approach is a fun, summer day at the beach that goes into blue hour. Colors are light and the posing is very casual with lots of movement.
